TA-GVHD is an unusual complication of blood transfusion but is usually fatal. Treatment of this serious reaction is rarely successful; prevention is the key to reduce the likelihood of TA-GVHD. Points of discussion will include which patients are at risk and the three current approaches for prevention of TA-GVHD: (1) Irradiation; (2) Leukoreduction, and (3) Pathogen Inactivation (PI). Attendees will learn the shift to PI outside the USA to prevent TA-GVHD.
