STERIN® irradiation indicators for Sterile Insect Technique (SIT)

International Specialty Products (ISP), now Ashland, developed STERIN® irradiation indicators for the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) program to provide positive, visual verification of irradiation at or above the printed minimum indicated dose of 70 Gy, 100 Gy, 125 Gy, 145 Gy or 250 Gy. When attached to products, STERIN® indicators show whether or not the products have been irradiated. Before a product and its attached indicator are irradiated, the indicator reads “NOT IRRADIATED.” After the product is irradiated, the word “NOT” in the indicator window is obscured and indicator reads “IRRADIATED.” STERIN® indicators only indicate that irradiation has occurred. They should not be used to measure the dose delivered by the irradiator.
